About Serra do Conduru State Park

Serra do Conduru State Park is located in the northeastern state of Bahia, Brazil, encompassing approximately 9,500 hectares of predominantly Atlantic Forest biome. It is characterized by steep mountainous terrain and dense rainforest that supports an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic or threatened. Established in 1997, the park plays a crucial role in conserving one of the last remaining fragments of pristine Atlantic Forest in the region, a biome recognized for its exceptional species richness and ecological importance. The park features numerous waterfalls, crisp streams, and offers visitors a chance to explore vibrant flora such as bromeliads, orchids, and towering trees, as well as to spot native mammals and bird species including the muriqui (woolly spider monkey), considered Brazil’s largest primate. Hiking trails range from easy paths to more challenging mountain routes leading to scenic observation points that provide panoramic views of the forest and the Atlantic coastline below. Visitors are drawn by the opportunity to experience the park’s natural beauty alongside local communities involved in sustainable activities and environmental education. The park's rugged geography and proximity to the coast enhance its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts interested in ecology, photography, and immersive nature studies.
